Wedding Crashers (2005) – 7.0
A competent addition to the annals of “dude-becomes-man” American comedies. The movement, once helmed by Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler, seems to be maturing at the same rate as its target audience: Former frat-boys weaned on Happy Gilmore are turning 30 and have started the inevitable process of becoming their dads. Fortunately, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are there to ease the pain. They star as John and Jeremy, a pair of philanderers who have perfected the method of sweet-talking their way into weddings to bed the female guests. Vaughn does a nice job playing the world’s loyalest wingman when Wilson sets his sights on Claire, played by Rachel McAdams, who, like Cameron Diaz in There’s Something About Mary, makes a pretty damn convincing case for settling down. Also features Isla Fisher as Vaughn’s sex-crazed love interest and Christopher Walken as Claire’s father.
